Above the door are carved the Arms of the Abbey[1]. The niche is home to a mitred abbot, Bernard de Clairvaux, Father of the Church, holding in his hand a copy of the De Gradibus humilitatis et superbiae written especially for the twelve monks who founded Fontenay.
