A view towards the Devil's Beeftub

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: A view towards the Devil's Beeftub Apart fro its geographical significance, the Beeftub is best known in earlier times as one of the places where the Covenanters hid from Royalist troops during the Covenanting Wars, a time which became known as 'The Killing Times'. The preachers of those days were banned from preaching in their kirks and held 'Blanket Sermons' (open air worship) many of them in this huge hole in the ground. The reivers of the south-east of Scotland also used the Beeftub to hide their cattle (ill-gotten gains) At present, the Beeftub is being sold by a local farmer and a public appeal is underway to buy this remarkable piece of land and save it for the nation.
