| Description | I had been disappointed that I had missed photographing a small black and white bird on a water pipe in the lawns of the Tyford Tea Factory as my guide unexpectedly turned up after finishing a phone call due to which the bird flew off. Well, as we were waiting to collect our tea at the outlet about half a kilometre from the factory, I noticed an identical bird high up on a tree near the tea outlet. I was limited by my18-200 lens but still at least got a recognizable picture of the bird. This is an Oriental Magpie Robin. They are distinctive black and white birds with a long tail that is held upright as they forage on the ground or perch conspicuously. Occurring across most of the Indian subcontinent and parts of Southeast Asia, they are common birds in urban gardens as well as forests. They are particularly well known for their songs and were once popular as cage birds. The oriental magpie-robin is considered the national bird of Bangladesh.
