Summary
[edit]DescriptionA skylark (Alauda arvensis) - geograph.org.uk - 1303074.jpg |
English: A skylark (Alauda arvensis) The skylark is a little larger in size than a sparrow but smaller than a starling. When excited or alarmed, the bird rises its crest, as depicted here. Skylarks are renowned for their display flight, rising vertically into the air, and for their distinctive song. They like open countryside, eat insects and seeds and can be found everywhere in the UK, all year round. Its recent and dramatic population declines, however, make it a Red List species.
This bird is sitting on the heaped-up topsoil in a field beside the unsurfaced road which links Park Farm with the B1149, further to the north. For a wider view of this location see > https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1303042. |
