Title
A single view of a Medieval strap end.
Description
English: The object is a composite strap end. The strap end is composed of two plates, a spacer, and three copper alloy rivets. The strap end is an elongated trapezoid in plan, with the narrowest terminal having an integral '+' with trefoil terminals protruding. The cross is integral to the two plates. The upper plate is decorated with a stamped zigzag design forming lozenge shapes. The lower plate is undecorated. Between the two plates there is a spacer visible in profile. The space fills approximately half of the plates in profile. There are three copper alloy rivets holding the plates and spacer together. In profile the strap end is bent at approximately 45º. The surface of the strap end has a well developed dark green patina. In length the strap end is 41.83mm, 9.45mm wide and 2.95mm thick. It weighs 4g.

In Egan and Pritchard (2002 Dress Accessories Boydell Press) there are similar strap ends, particularly Nos. 664 and 671 which date to the late 13th to mid 15th centuries.
