Notes The experts at Bonhams were in deep water here. The attribution to Jacobsen is doubtful. He typically signed and dated his work. The ship is surely named Oscar II, but it is not the "Peace Ship". That Oscar II was much larger. The Oscar II in the painting could be the one built for Jacob Christensen of Bergen, Norway in 1893, a 3,000 ton vessel that served until 1910. See more at miramarshipindex.nz.
