A medieval cast lead alloy sword pommel.
Description
English: A medieval cast lead alloy sword pommel. Pommel is sub-oval in plan, domed in section and decorated with moulded lobes arranged in a radiate pattern around the top of the object. At the very centre of the pommel is a square hole (now filled with mud) for the pommel bar. The underside of the pommel is ribbed and there is a raised collar around this side of the square hole. Surface consists of some creamy grey patina but it is mostly mid grey. It measures 31.76mm long, 14.76mm wide, is 12.64mm thick and weighs 20.28g. A pommel was the plain or decorative object at the end of the sword, dagger or knife. Similar sword pommels can be found on this database.
