dthe testicle supported so as not to allow any draggingon the cord. This can be accomplished by placinga folded newspaper across his thighs, which supportsthe testis as long as the man Ues on his back but failsif he turns over. For this reason it is better toemploy some form of suspensory bandage: the onedescribed below is the simplest and most efficient. The local application of warmth gives great reliefin the early stages ; a little later belladonna andglycerine is useful while, when the subacute conditionis reached, some form of counter-irritant is indicated.Ten to 20 per cent, of guaiacol in vaseline doeswell; strong medicaments, such as tincture ofiodine, are not usually necessary and they are liableto cause severe inflammation of the scrotum. Irri-gation or injections need not be suspended unless the 214 A MANUAL OF VENEREAL DISEASES testis is so painful as to prevent the man leavinghis bed without great discomfort. Lower point. GONORRHOEA : COMPLICATIONS 215 N.B.—This diagram shows the bandage folded. This is cut out of caHco, and is usually made in two sizes, the measuiements of which are noted on the diagram. Thedouble line on the curved margin shows where the twohalves are joined to complete the bandage. A broad tapeis sewn to each of the upper points and two finer ones tothe lower point. To apply the bandage.—Place the lower point under thescrotum, carry the finer tapes backwards, round thethighs, and tie off in front of the abdomen. Next raisethe swollen testicle as high as it Mdll go, and support itwith one hand, using the other to place as much cottonwool under the testicle as is necessary to keep it in.this position. Bring the bandage over the whole, passingthe penis tlirough the aperture left for it ; pass the broadtapes round the waist and tie off in front. The smallertapes should then be interlaced with the broad ones an4retied, as they have a tendency to slip dowr^. A littlemore w
