This can be accomplished by placinga folded newspaper across his thighs, which supportsthe testis as long as the man Ues on his back but failsif he turns over. For this reason it is better toemploy some form of suspensory bandage: the onedescribed below is the simplest and most efficient.The local application of warmth gives great reliefin the early stages ; a little later belladonna andglycerine is useful while, when the subacute conditionis reached, some form of counter-irritant is indicated.Ten to 20 per cent, of guaiacol in vaseline doeswell; strong medicaments, such as tincture ofiodine, are not usually necessary and they are liableto cause severe inflammation of the scrotum. Internally theurinary antiseptics should be given in full doses.
