e Common has a fine bandstand and a SoldiersMonument. It is the oldest park in Boston. The Public (Jarden has beautiful trees and flowerbeds and a pond with swan boats for the children. Franklin Park has bear dens, a lion house, anelephant house, a bird house, and a great bird cage.It also has American buffaloes, deer and other ani-mals. There is a flower garden there. The immi-grant can walk for hours in Franklin Park, enjoyingthe woods, the meadows, the views from hill tops andthe pretty i)ond. It is about a mile across this park. Jamaica Pond is the largest pond in Boston. Itsshores are covered with trees and there is a ChildrensMuseum there, open to even-body. The Arnold Arboretum is near Forest Hills. Ithas nearly every kind of American tree as well asbeds of flowers. No city in the world has a finerI)ark of this kind. People go there to see the wonder-ful lilacs, the apple blossoms and other flowers whenthey are in bloom. Many like to climb Bussey Hillor visit the hemlock grove.

Outside of Boston, but not very far away, are theMiddlesex Fells. This is a great park with manylarge jwnds, meadows, woods and hills. On the topsof two hills are towers from which one can see thecountry all around. The cars from Sullivan S(iuareStation go to Middlesex Fells. The Blue Hills Reservation is south of Boston.It covers many miles and includes the highest hillson the coast from Maine to Florida.
