Afrikaans: Vrywilligers is 'n onontbeerlike deel van ons voorkomende soek-en-reddingspan (PSAR) hier by Grand Canyon; dit sou nie dieselfde wees sonder hulle nie! Bob Wais, 'n PSAR-vrwilliger, speel 'n kritieke rol om besoekers veilig te hou. PSAR werk om besoekers op te voed oor hoe om veilig te stap. Daar was hierdie somer 'n groot aantal hitte- en oefeningverwante beserings in die park. Op 15 Julie het Bob sommige besoekers bygestaan wat aan hitteuitputting gely het. Nadat standaard afkoeling, rus en monitering van voedsel- en waterinnames nie gewerk het nie, het Bob vir bykomende hulp gevra om verdere sorg aan die twee stappers te verskaf. Bob het tot laatnag by die span gebly en gehelp om een van die stappers op 'n draagbaar uit die canyon te kry. Slaan daarop ag dat stappers moet oorweeg watter fisiese aktiwiteit hulle tydens kwarantyn gedoen of nie gedoen het nie, baie water drink en baie soutversnaperinge eet.
English: Volunteers are an indispensable part of our preventative search and rescue (PSAR) team here at Grand Canyon; it wouldn't be the same without them!
Bob Wais, a volunteer with PSAR, plays a critical role in keeping visitors safe. PSAR works to educate visitors on how to hike safely. There have been a high number of heat and exercise related injuries in the park this summer. On July 15th, Bob assisted some visitors suffering from heat illness. After standard cooling, rest, and monitoring food and water intakes did not work, Bob called for additional assistance to provide further care to the two hikers. Bob stayed late into the night with the team and assisted with the litter carry necessary to get one of the hikers out of the canyon. As a reminder, hikers should consider what physical activity they have, or have not been doing during quarantine, drink lots of water, and eat lots of salty snacks. #RecreateResponsibly If you are interested in volunteering at a national park or other public lands visit, <a href="https://www.volunteer.gov/" rel="noreferrer nofollow">www.volunteer.gov/</a>. |
