Summary
[edit]DescriptionA lichen - Arctoparmelia incurva - geograph.org.uk - 1050126.jpg |
English: A lichen - Arctoparmelia incurva (Older synonym: Parmelia incurva)
The lobes of the lichen are quite long and narrow. The inner lobes can be seen here to have round powdery areas on them. These are called soralia, and are covered in soredia (tiny granules containing only a few fungal and algal cells), which allow the lichen to reproduce asexually. (Superficially, there is a similarity to another species: 945680. Note, though, the difference in lobe shape: the lobes of A. incurva are narrow and convex, while those of X. conspersa are wider and flatter.) This lichen was growing in an exposed position on one of the stones of a dry-stone wall; the section of wall on which it was found is shown here: 1050079. |
