Looked at again after New Year, the three eggs in middlecompartment were hatched, but single egg in lowest room remainedthe same. *WHITE-BEEASTED SCRUB-TIT(Acanthornis inagna, Gould). MaZc—Crown of the head, lower back, and rump deep brownish-olive ; upper back olive ; tail blackish-brown, outer webs lighter, sub-tei-minal band black; wings black, first five primaries narrowlyedged on terminal half of outer webs with white; greater wingcoverts edged with white; lores and a stripe over the eyes w^hite;ear coverts and cheeks slate-black; throat white, becoming paleyellow on the abdomen; flanks and under tail coverts deepbrownish-oHve; iridps light yellow; bill blackish; legs and feetbrownish. Dimensions in mm. :—Length, 109; hill, 13; wing, 53;tail, 44; tarsus, 2L Female.—Colouration in general browjier; throat tinged withvellow.

Nest.—AccoixUng to Mr. A. L. Butler, the position of the nestvaries according to the nature of the scrub in which it is found.He sajs :— I have found them as low as 3 inches from the groundand as high as 9 feet, in grass and fenis, and then again in thedead fronds of the tree-feni. The nest is globular in shape, witha side entrance, and is composed of strips of bark, rootlets, and alittle green moss, the lining being fern down, feathers, and fur. Eggs.—Clutch three; inclined to oval in shape; texture ofshell fine ; surface glossy; colour pearly-white, more or less blotchedwith reddish-brown and purplish-brown, and, as is often the case,the markings are heaviest about the stouter end. Dimensions inmm. of a clutch :—(1) 18 x 13, (2) 19 x 13, (3) 18.5 x 12.5. Breeding Season.—October and Novembe
