Ferameles fusciventer, Gray, in Greys Australia, Appendix,vol. ii., p. 407 (1841). Pcrameles affinis, Gray, List Mamm. Brit. Mus., p. 96 (1843). (Flale XXIII.) Characters.—Size medium j form stout. In all other respectsexternally similar to Ferameles macrura^ except that the tail isshorter, the feet are rather less heavy, and the colour is lighter.Length of head and body about 14 inches; of tail 5^ inches. Distribution.—Australia, south of the tropics, and Tasmania. HaMts.—It does not appear that anything special has beenrecorded of the habits of this and the aUied species wherebythey can be distinguished from Gunns Bandicoot and itskindred, with the exception that, as already mentioned, theyare stated by Gould to inhabit damper and more denselywooded situations.
