Title |
A fragment of a steelyard weight. |
||
Description |
English: The object is what appears to be a portion of the outer casing of a steelyard weight. What remains is the integral loop and a small portion of the body.
The loop is sub-triangular in plan with rounded corners. There is a hole in the centre which is sub-circular. There are slight traces of wear at the upper portion ofthe hole. The body of the casing continues, in profile, the triangular shape along the side edges. In plan the casing forms a sub-circular shape. All the edges ofthe casing is broken. The breaks appear to have been abraded recently, but not broken recently. By the loop in the casing there is also an irregular shaped hole, again not recent damage. The casing is decorated with a fine linear horizontal groove around the base ofthe loop. The interior surface of the casing has slight casting irregularities forming undulating ridges, and one ridge being more pronounced than the others.The exterior surface has a mid green patina. |
