Title |
A copper alloy medieval seal matrix reversed image |
||
Description |
English: A copper alloy circular seal matrix. It has a perforated trefoil knop with a ridge and groove below, above a hexagonal stem that widens to the base. The matrix itself has a central circular motif of a bird of prey, left, landing on another bird, left, below it. The upper bird has a long tail and a hooked, open beak. The lower bird has a long, closed beak and possibly webbed feet. The inscription runs around the outer circle, beginning with a six-pointed star and ending with a circle. It reads: 'ALAS JE SUPRI(S)' ('Alas I am caught'), a popular motto. |
