Title
A copper alloy buckle frame, sub-circular in shape
Description
English: A buckle frame made of copper alloy, sub-circular in shape. It measures 18.24mm wide, 16.42mm long and 2.83mm thick. The cross-section is an oval shape, proving to have a thinner section at the bar. The outer edge of the buckle has a small lobed knop either side of 4 grooves, forming a gripping hand. The buckle frame itself seems to be intact, with little oxidisation taken place. The pin and plate are missing. This buckle type is Medieval, with parallels known from the 13th and 14th centuries in ‘Buckles: 1250-1800’ (Whitehead 2003, no. 100).
