Title |
A cast copper alloy medieval knife chape |
||
Description |
English: An incomplete medieval cast copper alloy knife chape. It is triangular in shape with bevelled edges, where one edge is straight and the other is curved. There is a round knop and the end of the chape. The front is undecorated but appears to have scratches on the surface. The reverse has an added copper alloy sheet which tapers down from the end and shows some iron corrosion products. The front has no corrosion products. It is in good condition and the break, which is about a third down from the original end is only slightly rolled. It is likely to date from the 14-16th centuries. A similar object may be found on the database WILT-A47132.
The chape is 46.5 mm long, 22.41 mm wide, 5.1 mm thick and weighs 8.62 g. |
