Title |
A cast copper alloy annular buckle, dating between 1250-1400 AD. |
||
Description |
English: A cast copper alloy annular single looped framed buckle with pin and frame still attached together(diameter of frame: 32.9mm; thickness of frame: 4.5mm; length of pin: 39.9mm; weight: 13.93g). The pin has a slight protruding ridge just below the hooked end with small incised linear markings above. There is no other decoration. Similar examples have ben excavated from medieval deposits in London and are illustrated in Egan & Pritchard's 'Dress Accessories: Medieval Finds from Excavations in London', pages 57-8, Fig 36, Ref nos 28-38. Egan & Pritchard indicate that these plain circular items with a frame uninterrupted by a constriction for a pin are listed under their present category as buckles, while those with a constriction are included under brooches (page 57). All these similar examples have been dated between 1270-1400 AD. |
