Curtis. Engravings by the Art Engraving Company. Published by the Associated Cartoon Service. Artwork by Edwin F. Brotze.Augustus Warren Gould (1872-1922) was born in Salem, Nova Scotia. He studied architecture at MIT, and went into business with his brothers in Boston, who did contracting and building. Later, he practiced architecture independently, in Boston, and designed the Phillips Brooks school, the Boston city stables, the Dudle Club at Roxbury, and the Deer Island Women's Prison. He moved to Seattle in 1904 and designed, among other buildings, the American Bank and Empire buildings, the Arctic Club building, and the King County courthouse. He was married to Susie A. Arey. He died of a heart attack in Tacoma in 1922.
