Summary
[edit]DescriptionA Tamarisk Tree in Israel B (5758888559).jpg |
The Tamarisk is native to the Holy Land. It was known from biblical times as a wonderful shade tree. Its needles use salt crystals to draw stray moisture from the air in the arid climate. The evaporation of this moisture also helps to cool the air under the tree's spreading boughs. This specimen stands on the site of ancient Ashkalon. |
