Sighted this raptor on a short birding trip near my home. I believe it was on a nesting raid in the morning, not sure of which bird though. But the nest was too close to the road, so when I drove by before seeing it, the bird flew away. Summer is the prime nesting season for most small birds in the subcontinent and the parents have to watch out for many predators like Shikra, Snakes, other birds, Lizards, Crows etc... The Shikra is most aggressive that it directly attacks nests of small birds targeting both chicks and parents equally, i.e. grab what you can. The bird carefully surveys the nests, looks around when the parents are feeding the chicks to find the hidden nests and attacks. Many thanks in advance for your views and feedback. |
