Description |
English: A Post Medieval silver button dating to the 17th century. Curator's report: Date: 17th Century Discovery: Found by J Dunford in February 2006 while using a metal detector on the foreshore, and recorded by Kate Sumnall, FLO for Greater London. . Description: Spherical head in two hemispherical sheets with wire loop. Stamp maker's mark 'RW' in rectangle. X-ray fluorescence analysis carried out at the British Museum confirmed a composition of approximately 93% silver and 7% copper. Dimensions: Diameter 15mm; Weight 2.61g Discussion: This item is more than 300 years old and composed of more than 10% precious metal, and therefore should be considered Treasure under the terms of the Treasure Act 1996.
