Title |
A Mesolithic Microlith |
||
Description |
English: A flint probable Mesolithic microlith dating from 8000 - 4000 BC. It is a Group C microlith (see Clarke no. 13 (cited in Butler 2005: 93 fig. 35)), which is triangular, formed on patinated opaque grey flint. One long edge and the base have abrupt, parallel, short retouch and one end is pointed.
Butler (2005: 88) notes that microliths were used in a number of different tools and weapons, most frequently as the tip/point of a wooden shaft or as a number of barbs along the sides of an arrow shaft. The overall dimensions are as follows: 19.03mm in length, 5.01mm in width, 2.43mm in thickness and 0.25g in weight. |
