Title
A Medieval gold iconographic posy finger ring.
Description
English: A Medieval gold iconographic posy ring (late 14th-15th century). The hoop is 4.47mm wide expanding to form a rectangular bezel 9.88mm wide. The hoop is decorated with repeated diagonal bands of grooves, beaded lines and ridges. On either side of the bezel there is a floral motif within the diagonal bands. The flower has five petals and a stem with four leaves attached. The bezel is divided into two broadly grooved fields set longitudinally. The left field bears the image of the Trinity (God the Father, Christ on the Cross and the Holy Spirit in the form of a dove), and the right field bears an engraved figure of a saint. On the interior of the hoop is an engraved inscription that appears to be scored through twice with parallel engraved lines. The inscription appears to read "PUR BON AMOUR". Dimensions: diameter 22.56mm; width 9.88mm; thickness 1.71mm weight 3.5g.
