Title |
A Medieval ceramic floor tile (13th – 14th century). |
||
Description |
English: A Medieval ceramic floor tile (13th – 14th century). The square tile is decorated on the upper surface with a pattern in white slip and covered with a lead glaze. The pattern comprises a central quatrefoil with a pellet between each foil. Along each edge there is a semi-circle enclosing a floral motif of two petals and central stamen with a pellet to each side of the petals. In each corner is a triangle pointing towards the centre of the tile. This tile formed one element from a patterned pavement where adjacent tiles would have completed the semi-circular motifs to form circles with central floral patterns. There are stray traces of glaze on the other surfaces from the firing process.
