Title
A Medieval annular brooch
Description
English: A complete copper alloy annular brooch dating to the Medieval period (c. AD 1200-1400). The frame of the brooch is sub-triangular in section. The bevelled face of the frame has six circular recesses, five of which may have held a setting or decorative coloured paste, and the sixth holds the tip of the pin. The outside edge of the frame has a series of incised grooves in a rough zig-zag pattern. The top of these incised grooves form a series of notches running around the top edge of the frame. The underside of the frame is flat and undecorated. The frame has a recessed restriction for the pin. The pin is intact: loops around the frame at the point of attachment and reaches out to meet one of the recesses in the frame on the opposite side.

Several similar examples have been recorded on the PAS database, including: NMGW-542123; WILT-1CE410; and PUBLIC-593546.

The overall dimensions are as follows: 17.78mm in diameter, 3.65mm in thickness and 2.44g in weight.
