Title |
A Group of Post Medieval Shots |
||
Description |
English: A group of nine lead shots dating to the Post Medieval period (c. AD 1600-1800). The shots are spherical in shape, whilst one has a flattened surface suggesting it had been fired. All are pitted and scratched and have a mid- to light grey patina.
The shots range in size from c.10mm to c.15mm. As such the larger shots would have been fired by carbines and the smaller by small pistols (Richard Bradley, Worcestershire Archaeology 2020 pers. comm.). Whilst there are several thousand shots recorded on the PAS database it is the exact location of the find that is important to record for these items in particular. As stated by Leahy and Lewis (2018: 345), such finds, if properly recorded, can reveal the course of a battle or inform when and where an action took place, as appears to be the case in this instance. |
