English: "Holud shondha" or Gaye Holud (turmeric on the body) is a must pre-wedding ceremony for the Bengali . It is usually observed in the evening. It is not a religious but Indian sub-continental ceremony.The ceremony can be performed by both the groom and the bride together or separately. Both the families of the groom and the bride presents each other various accessories , traditional foods , gifts,jewelry etc.The dais where bride or groom will seat must be decorated with raw .Various decorated foods are kept on the dais where the groom or bride is seated. . At the end of the ceremony groom's/bride's friends have meal together sitting on the dais.
