Description

A very interesting bird species with a unique colourful eye patch. This one is the most common of the three Malkoha species found in India.

It belongs to the large cuckoo family, but is significantly different that it is non-parasitic, i.e. it doesn't lay its eggs in other birds nests. The bird is easily recognizable by the bluish eye from which it derives its name. I had seen this bird dart off into trees where there were other birds nests several times, but I am not sure if it is a nest raider that ears eggs or chicks. Incidentally the bird is only found in South India upto Sri Lanka.

The other two species are quite rare (one with reddish eye patch and another with Green) and I was lucky to have seen both though don't have any pictures of them.
