Date Die Stmk. Landesregierung hat gemäß § 4 Abs. 1 der Stmk. Gemeindeordnung 1967, LGBl. 115, mit Beschluss vom 24. April 1972 der im politischen Bezirk Graz-Umgebung gelegenen Gemeinde Unterpremstätten mit Wirkung vom 1. Juni 1972 das Recht zur Führung eines Gemeindewappens verliehen.

English: The two pales are taken from the knights of Premstätten, the local squires of the Middle Ages.

The tree refers to the deep Kaiserwald forest, which was a hunting preserve of the Dukes of Styria.

The brick-wall shows the importance of local brickyards at the time of the grant of the arms.
