In zijn 'Atlas Maior' die in 1662 in 11 delen verscheen, nam Joan Blaeu (1598-1673) 7 nieuwe kaarten van Afrika op. Het is veelal onduidelijk aan welke bronnen Blaeu die informatie ontleende. Dat geldt niet voor deze kaart van de benedenloop van de rivier de Zaire. De kaart werd vermoedelijk samengesteld naar informatie die Blaeu verkreeg van de Nederlandse ontdekkingsreiziger Jan van Herden.

Op de kaart zijn verscheidene schepen ingetekend.

Regna Congo et Angola. Joan Blaeu (1598-1673) included new maps of Africa in his 'Atlas Maior' published in 11 parts in 1662. It is largely unclear from which sources Blaeu derived his information. However, that does not apply to this map of the lower reaches of the Zaire river. The map is thought to have been compiled on the basis of information Blaeu acquired from the Dutch explorer Jan van Herden.

Various vessels have been drawn on the chart.
