Komentarz: Janusz Kusociński, przydomek “Kusy” (1907-1940), rekordzista świata, mistrz olimpijski, wielokrotny rekordzista i mistrz Polski w biegach długich. W 1928 uzyskał po raz pierwszy tytuł mistrza Polski w biegu na 5 tys. m. Na igrzyskach olimpijskich w Los Angeles w 1932 zdobył, jako pierwszy mężczyzna w dziejach sportu polskiego, złoty medal olimpijski w biegu na 10 tys. m. W czasie swojej kariery sportowej ustanowił na różnych dystansach 19 rekordów Polski, dwa światowe i po jednym Europy i Olimpiady. Zdobył niezwykłą popularność. Przydomek “Kusy” łączył elementy nazwiska z cechami fizycznymi biegacza. Za udział w kampanii wrześniowej, odznaczony był Krzyżem Walecznych. 26 III 1940 został aresztowany przez gestapo, a następnie rozstrzelany 21 VI 1940 r. w Palmirach pod Warszawą. Dla uczczenia jego pamięci, od 1945 organizowane są w Warszawie doroczne międzynarodowe zawody lekkoatletyczne o “Memoriał Janusza Kusocińskiego”. W zasobie Archiwum Dokumentacji Mechanicznej znajduje się 140 fotografii dotyczących Janusza Kusocińskiego. |
