Description

Un drachme en argent d’un roi inconnu de Sogdiane, région de Samarcande vers 700-730 AD. A/ Buste couronné du roi à droite ; légende en sogdien « BUH’AR HUB K’AY » ce qui signifie « Seigneur roi de Boukhara ». R/ Autel du feu avec la tête de Ahuramazda très stylisée et deux servants de chaque côté. Dimensions : 31,7 mm Poids : 3,16 g. L’atelier est incertain, peut-être Samarcande. Il s’agit d’une imitation de la drachme sassanide de Merv de Bahram V. La monnaie est en bon état et frappé sur un flan large mais le revers a été mal frappé. On appelle ces pièces des drachmes de Mug car le premier trésor où on en a trouvé se trouvait sur la montagne Mug en Tadjiskistan. En dehors de ce dernier, deux autres trésors ont été trouvés, un dans la région de Samarcande et le dernier près de la ville de Paykend à 45 km de Boukhara. Les rois de Sogdiane, des Turko-Hephtalites, sont indépendants entre 485 jusqu’aux environs de 696 AD (AH 77), date vers laquelle ils sont intégrés au Califat mais les monnaies continuent à être émises.
