Description
English: 1st visit of a Boeing 777 to Manchester (MAN). It was supposed to be a day of celebration for Emirates. The aircraft was on it's delivery flight from Boeing's Everett (PAE) factory, via Manchester (MAN) to Dubai (DXB). We had the Emirates Managing Director waiting at Manchester to escort a VIP & Press party to Dubai.

Unfortunately it didn't work out as planned. The aircraft developed an oil leak in it's No:2 engine after leaving Everett and had to divert to Keflavik (KEF), Iceland because of low oil levels. It continued on to Manchester after topping up the oil, only to lose more before arriving into Manchester. A Rolls Royce team drove up from Derby to try and sort it out but it turned into a big job and ended up being stuck at Manchester for 36 hours before continuing it's delivery flight to Dubai.

The VIP & Press party? Some went on the regular schedule, some went to London-Heathrow (LHR) for an Emirates flight from there, and the rest went home !!!
