Description A U.S. Navy Grumman A-6E Intruder (BuNo 160996) from Attack Squadron 35 (VA-35) Black Panthers approaches the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz (CVN-68) for a landing on 27 June 1981. VA-35 was assigned to Carrier Air Wing 8 (CVW-8) aboard the Nimitz for a deployment to the Mediterranean Sea from 3 August 1981 to 12 February 1982. During that deployment the A-6E 160996 crashed into the sea on 18 November 1981 after the undercarriage collapsed. Both crewmembers ejected safely.
