Description

Accession: 94-90-C Bell, Ship US Navy. Brass

Curator Branch is busy packing up the collection to move to a new larger warehouse, so that we can consolidate all our collections into one space. We are busy working in our old warehouses to facilitate the move. Here is a bell from the USS Colorado . It is a good example of a ship' bell and unusual in that the inscriptions on the bell relate to the history of its use. The bell was originally used on the steam screw frigate Colorado launched in 1856 from Norfolk Navy Yard. It was also used by the second Colorado ARC/CA- 7(renamed Pueblo) which was built by William Cramp and Sons Ship and Engine Building Com, Philadelphia. The reverse of the bell has the inscription "Puritan 1896" (USS Puritan)
