Description
English: A local man from Sainte Marie du Mont, France, hangs U.S. Army decorations on his windowsill. The local community in Normandy fills their streets and homes with American flags during the D-Day commemorations as an expression of gratitude for the American servicemembers who liberated France 80 years ago. The French Resistance Monument was erected in 2021 to honor the contributions of the and holds an annual ceremony during the D-Day commemorations. The success of the elite Jedburgh teams during WWII is credited to the support received from members of the French Resistance. The French Resistance played a pivotal role in the success of the Allied landings with their campaigns of sabotage. Many made the ultimate sacrifice. The bronze monument features a Frenchman with a Sten gun, a young French woman using radio equipment, and a French boy on a bicycle returning from reconnaissance with a message to be coded.
