Description 80-G-1036458: Space Flight Program. This is the Aviation Medical Accelerator Laboratory (AMAL). As a vital part of the Naval Air Development Center at Johnsville, Pennsylvania, the AMAL houses the world’s largest human centrifuge in the center of the of the 110-foot floor is a 180-tone, 4,000 horsepower vertically mounted D-C motor. Used in researching simulated space flights, the motor has an instantaneous rating of 16,000hp, late 1950s. Official U.S. Navy Photograph, now in the collections of the National Archives.
