Description

GB Railfreight class 66/7 (JT42CWR) number 66722 named "Sir Edwin Watkin" built by General Motors Electro-Motive Division, London, Ontario, Canada in 2006 and unloaded from the a Heavy Lift Ship at Newport Docks. Sir Edwin Watkin was the chairman of nine British railway companies including being director of the Great Western Railway, Great Eastern Railway and South Eastern Railway, overseeing large-scale railway engineering projects to expand the Metropolitan Railway, construct the Great Central Main Line and a failed attempt to build a channel tunnel. Here it is photographed hauling 18 flat wagons with 3 empty gypsum containers mounted on each one working from Mountfield Sidings (Gbrf) East Sussex (British Gypsum's Robertsbridge Works) to Doncaster Down Decoy (Gbrf), South Yorkshire on 23 July 2014. To comply with gas emission regulations limestone (CaCO3) delivered to West Burton power station (by other trains) is used to remove sulfur dioxide (SO2) from the flue gasses (desulfurisation), by converting it into gypsum (CaSO4·2H2O). The waste product (gypsum) is then delivered by train to British Gypsum's Robertsbridge Works where it is used to manufacture plaster and plasterboard for Greater London and the South East of England. It was also photographed by Alan Padley at Besscarr (<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/alanpadley/14541574768/">www.flickr.com/photos/alanpadley/14541574768/</a>).

Wagons being hauled by 66722 were 640676, 640680, 640649, 640643, 640679, 640658, 640678, 640689, 640914, 640662, 640648, 640639, 640691, 640654, 640631, 640675, 640667 and 640659.
