DB Schenker's class 66 (JT42CWR) number 66167 in English, Welsh and Scottish Railway maroon with zigzag gold band works 6V13 from Dollands Moor sidings to Margam Terminal Complex hauling 12 empty IHA covered steel coil carrier wagons (Sfhimmns) on 8 February 2014. It was also photographed later on route by David Smith at Baulking (www.flickr.com/photos/world_railways/13027651913/), Ian Leech at Baulking (www.flickr.com/photos/ianl2/13029110835/), Stephen Dance at Bourton/Shrivenham (www.flickr.com/photos/48175753@N03/13111568445/in/photoli...) and also by Chris Higham (www.flickr.com/photos/78354638@N04/13017989033/in/photoli...). welovechannel4 videoed it at Reading (www.youtube.com/watch?v=mhQ8wmzanpo).Prior to working 6V13 66167 worked 4E26 from Dollands Moor to Scunthorpe Redbourne sidings on 7 March then returned to Dollands Moor. Rather than 66167 working 6V13 this should have been hauled by 66035 however these two locomotives were swapped over as 6B23 was running very late. 66167 was built by General Motors Electro-Motive Division, London, Ontario, Canada in 1999 and unloaded from the Heavy Lift Ship MV "Jumbo Challenger" at Newport Docks on 18 November 1999. Wagon numbers include 37 84 4667 127-3, 37 84 4667 051-5, 33 87 4667 048-2 and 37 84 4667 127-3. The steel flow from South Wales to Maubeuge (France) and to Broekman (Holland) stopped running through the Channel tunnel at the end of November 2015. The flow to Maubeuge was cancelled as the cold mill which produced this material was mothballed as part of the Tata Steel strip downsizing programme. Instead Maubeuge is supplied from Tata Steels Limuiden plant (Holland). 2 grades of steel were also supplied by Tata Steel to Broekman Group to make oil drums. With one grade being sourced from elsewhere the remaining 700 tonnes per week of the second grade was not sufficient to run a block train. |
