Left hand smoke deflector of A1 Pacific “Tornado” with the RAF Leemimg’s crest above the lettering of Tornado’s name.
Description

The nameplate of brand new steam locomotive 60163 Tornado which is fitted to the smoke deflectors. The locomotive was named after the Panavia Tornado fighter aircraft flown by the Royal Air Force.

This is the nameplate on the left hand side of the locomotive, and features the crest of the RAF station, RAF Leeming (official image), which depicts an image of a sword, with the motto: straight and true. The nameplate on the right hand side (image) carries the RAF Cottesmore crest.

Only four of the original 49 Peppercorn A1 class locomotives also featured crests as part of their nameplates, representing railway company crests, the rest had none (such as 60131 Osprey).
