Description
English: 18 - 21 March, 5th Battalion, 4th Air Defense Artillery Regiment conducted its annual Battle Staff Ride. Soldier’s of the unit critically analyzed events and actions occurring during World War I’s 12th Battle of the Isonzo fought between the Italian and Austro-Hungarian Empire’s armies on, October 24, 1917 - November 11, 1917, and the epic Italian defense on Monte Grappe. Traveling from Kobarid (Caporetto) and the Kolovray Rdigeline at the base of the Julian Alps in Slovenia, across the Freudian Plains of Italy, and climbing the heights of Monte Grappa 5-4 ADAR tracked the major events depicted in Erwin Rommel’s book “Infantry Attacks,” and first hand accounts from Italian sources documenting feats of heroism and operational art in the Isonzo. Not only was it educational with incredible views, but critical for the development of small unit leaders within the Battalion.
