Español: TUCANA. 47 TUCANAE, NGC 104 o XI TUC.
El segundo cúmulo globular mas visible y hermoso de todo el cielo luego del Omega Centauri. 47 TUC está ubicado en la constelación austral del Tucán (Tucana, ver LaCaille), tiene un diámetro de 30.9’ de arco de grado, 120 años luz de diámetro, una magnitud de +4 y se encuentra a 16.700 años luz del Sol. Posee millones de estrellas que se van aproximando hacia el centro del mismo, pero nunca se juntan, donde el cúmulo se hace más denso y más brillante. Se lo puede observar a simple vista en todas las noches claras del año y desde -20º de latitud hasta los -90°. Con binoculares o con un pequeño telescopio se lo hace más interesante y se puede resolver el centro mas brillante del objeto celeste. Desde nuestras latitudes (-37º) y observando hacia el horizonte Sur, desde mediados de Octubre hasta principios de Enero se lo ve pasar (Hora Paso) por el meridiano del lugar (culminación) a una altura de 55º. Esta altura es aproximada para la costa bonaerense y el litoral argentino. Ver tabla en la imagen. Fue descubierto por el astrónomo Abad Nicolás Louis de LaCaille en el año 1751, en su viaje al Cabo de la Buena Esperanza, Sudáfrica, en el monte Mensa. |
