Summary

[edit]
Description 330-PSA-151-61 (USN 710919): Navy’s Newest: Catamaran Hydrofoil Test Craft. A new high speed hydrofoil test craft, with a capacity to test a wide variety of foil types, is being built for the Navy by Boeing Company, Aerospace Division, in Seattle, Washington. The 15-ton craft has a catamaran hull which will contribute to its versatility in changing foil systems. Shown here is a table-top model. During foil-borne operations, the vessel will be powered by a Pratt and Whitney turbo fan engine and will be capable of speeds up to 100 knots. The craft will utilize a completely automatic system to control height and vertical motion while “flying” on its foils. The experimental craft will be 52 feet long and about 21 feet wide. It is expected to be engaged in its testing program within 18 months from the start of construction. Photograph released July 13, 1961. (9/22/2015).
