Description

330-PS-1283 (USN 708204): Navy Pilot Receives Medal of Honor. In his office at the Pentagon, Secretary of the Navy Francis P. Matthews greets Lieutenant Junior Grade Thomas J. Hudner, Jr., and his family. Left to right: Richard Hudner; Mary Hudner; Mr. Thomas J. Hudner, Sr., Lieutenant Hudner, Jr., Mrs. Thomas J. Hudner, Sr., Secretary Matthews; James Hudner, and Philip Hudner.

For the attempted rescue of Ensign Brown, whose plane struck by anti-aircraft fire and trailing smoke, was forced down behind enemy lines in the Chosin Reservoir area of Korea on December 4, 1950. Lieutenant Junior Grade Thomas J. Hudner, Jr., USN, received the Medal of Honor from President Harry S. Truman at a ceremony at the White House. Photograph released April 13, 1951. (6/16/2015).
