| Description |
English: 21-Odd-limit just intonation intervals compared to 31 equal divisions of the octave.
31-EDO provides a very good approximation to the historically-important tuning of quarter-comma meantone, where the perfect fifths are flattened from the 3:2 just ratio so that a chain of four fifths gives a justly-tuned major third of 5:4. The fifths in quarter-comma meantone are 696.58 cents, while those of 31-EDO are 696.77 cents. In the 31-EDO system, the major thirds are only one cent sharper than the justly tuned 5:4. |
