English: A chance meeting late at night during the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics between Australian team Chef de Mission Kate McLoughlin, members of the Australian team medical staff and the Chef de Mission from Afghanistan, Arian Sadiqi. Sadiqi struck up a conversation because he wanted to thank Australia for all it had done via Kurt, Fearnley, Craig Foster and others to get the Afghan athletes the Games. The Aussie pictures were from the walls of the Australian allotment and the medical team had drawn funny messages on the back to show at Dylan Alcott’s semi-final tennis match. Sadiqi spoke with the group for about 45 min and told how the Afghan athletes were so worried about the impact of their escape on their families. Left to right: Declan Osborne (Physiotherapist), Arian Sadiqi, Kate McLoughlin, Paula Peralta (Lead Team Physiotherapist) and Dr Pip Inge (Chief Medical Officer) |
