| Description |
The 62km branch from Reda through to Hel which is at the end of a long, narrow peninsular. With sandy beaches, the area is a popular summer tourist destination. The start of the Summer railway timetable (in line with school holidays starting at the end of June), additional regional trains as well as PKP INterCity services run to cater for the increase in passenger traffic. Polregio largely use DMUs with some sets strengthened with loco hauled coaches marshalled in the centre of two sets or trailing. However, two 4-coach double deck sets powered by SU or SM42s are drafted into use mainly to run back and forth between Gdynia and Hel, with one set working through to Chojnice. On 29 June 2017, SU42-534 has arrived in at Hel on one of the two double deck sets, this one still sporting the Przewozy Regionalne logo. Train R90503, 07:10 Gdynia Główna to Hel. All stations along the branch have been rebuilt with new platforms and fencing making photography a little more tricky. This photo has been cropped to remove some of the fencing to the left. |
