Title |
2596A4.jpg shield shaped mount |
||
Description |
English: Medieval copper-alloy shield-shaped pendant mount, 20mm long and 17mm wide. The mount is very worn and corroded and is missing some edges. It shows the three lions of England, one above the other with each decreasing in size towards the base. The lowest lion still has traces of its original surface and shows areas of gilding and red enamel inlay. The lions of England were the royal arms until 1340, when they were quartered with the arms of France. The three lions design may have continued despite this change. The mount probably dates to the 13th or 14th century. |
