Description

Formerly class 119 on Deutsche Reichsbahn (DR) they became class 219s after mergining of the fleets of the two German railways. Built in Romania between 1976 and 1984, they were nicknamed "U-Boot" ("U-Boat") and were never the most successful of locomotives. Some examples were later re-engined and classified 229s although none are now in stock with Deutsche Bahn.

Seen at Zeitz on 25 May 1992, 219.166 is seen on train E807, 18:12 Leipzig to Saalfeld (Saale).
